Athena Care Homes UK boast of “Happy, Comfortable and Safe Care”. Mala Agarwal (Managing Director) is fully aware of the appalling issues surrounding poor management, poor care, neglect and even abuse.
Staff have been bullied – and staff have been suspended/dismissed for daring to raise concerns.
Personally, I think that Athena Care Homes UK should be thoroughly ashamed. My opinion of how they operate could not be lower.
Athena Care Homes UK (in my opinion) should not be considered UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES – to care for vulnerable people.
A catalogue of incidents under the ‘care’ of this company have endangered residents.
This company were repeatedly warned by Doreen’s family (Roy and Valerie) about Doreen being attacked – yet they chose to ignore the concerns.
DOREEN LIVERMORE DIED NOT LONG AFTER BEING PUSHED, FALLING ON TOP OF A HOOVER THAT WAS LEFT IN CORRIDOR.
Norfolk County Council also chose to ignore the concerns.
A follower of our page told us:
“When Les pollard (qualified nurse) was manager at Amberley Hall Care Home. There was an incident that resulted in Les wanting to lock a dementia resident (Beatrice Seaman) in her room at night.
Les spoke to the residents inappropriately. Example; he asked a resident how the activity was and ended with him saying she ‘hadn’t found the right man yet’.
“The way Les spoke with residents was unacceptable. The paperwork was not together, the care plans barely ever up to date to meet the residents needs, frequent medication errors. Safeguarding team were usually in the home due to so many incidents. When Care Quality Commission visited there was 4 or 5 on suspension”.
Les now apparently works for Swiss Cottage, Plantation Road, Leighton Buzzard (Roseberry Care) which is also documented by Care Quality Commission as ‘Requiring improvement’ on leadership level.
“Most of the carers you can not fault they generally care for the residents and help them and become there family”.
But ‘carer’ Vera Luse ‘allegedly’ ((we have to say ‘allegedly’) even “tried to turn the smoke alarm off in the Balmoral dining room”.
“Management don’t listen !
Josh (the maintenance guy) use to just turn the glass in the green quick door release the holes in wall they just put a bit of wood up and josh is married to Laura in admin so he can do no wrong. He takes about 3 days to paint a room that would take us a day but he tries to string the job out. Bob the other maintenance guy is absolutely lovely and has time for residents and will stand and talk, he was an angel to staff especially if we needed a job done bob would be the one.
So so so many staff and management have left there because it’s too much. They asked so much of some staff it was not possible to do your job safely. They swap staff around on units this is not good for any of them and the residents didn’t like it. Management ‘new best’ but staff did not agree to that change and with dementia they need stability”.
This is from yet another person that was subjected to hostile retaliation after voicing concerns:
“I was recently working for a company in Kings Lynn, the staff work really hard and do care a lot about the residents they wouldn’t be there otherwise.
The problem is not the staff it comes from the top, sadly politics, bad management and BS take over,
The last 4 months have been rough on everyone. At the start of the pandemic it was a joke, we were told we don’t need masks we don’t have the virus, some staff were told off for wearing masks by being told they were scaring the residents.. maybe so but sadly residents caught Covid-19 and some passed away although they will tell you it was underlying health issues.
At least twenty staff caught Covid-19 and got accused of milking it or skiving for being off.
People are afraid of losing their jobs and have fear put into them so won’t speak up.
I voiced my opinion and spoke to management about my concerns, I was then suspended and ended up leaving because of it.
I would Never put anyone into a home managed by this company”.
Carers Want Competence 
This man les pollard is discusting I used to work with him in a home in Leicester. When I had concerns of him touching a lady with dementia who would forget things shes fmdidnt want male carers and he took advantage changed her care plan to say any carers because she would forget he touched staff up. If any staff raised concerns he sacked them. He was dirty mouth to me I was scrubbing the chair in the lounge on all for he told me I like it in that position and should try bending over a bit more vile. I contact CQC and the police and raised the concerns clearly this man is still doing his dirty things in other care homes. He seems to get caught and then move to other care homes and do the same thing this man needs locking up.
