If you ever admitted to Avening Ward, Cheltenham. HCA’s x1 and x2 Ward manager, Staff Nurse x3 and Staff Nurse x4. These are quite abrupt with patients. Possibly due to short staffing, but that’s no excuse to portray such rudeness, is it. x1 has an airing full of arrogant self importance, literally barking orders at the decent caring HCA’s. Not very nice, is it.. She’s actually been heard giving medical advice to patients, it was reported but so far no response.
x3 become and continued to be, arrogantly rude when learnt that I was raising concerns,
x4, well, what can I say.. A face like a smacked arse and an attitude to match, in the sense of totally ignoring patients when they attempt to speak to her.
x3 has no time to listen to a patient or relatives, very dismissive and displayed hostility when my consistent concerns were raised. x3 also encouraged my relative to take numerous tablet medication all at once, although she is completely aware of the choking risk (“here’s your tablets ‘P’, would you like them all at once?”). How dangerous is that..
Ward manager Sister resorted to allowing an HCA to physically restrain a patient by the wrists when providing forced personal care. This was totally unnecessary as the patient would have consented had they just gave some encouragement rather than distress. I had requested them to “allow me ‘two minutes’ to talk to my relative but Sister downright refused and continued to cause distress.
For four weeks many unwarranted bruises on this patient, consistent sores, including bleeding, from inadequate personal care. Most of the bruising was apparent during early morning visits, most, but not all, apparently from overnight staff.
Safeguarding social worker is investigating but so far doesn’t seem interested in the fact that these are MY concerns, made consistently to staff and the fact that they remain unaddressed. Still not returning my phone calls. No surprise there then.

I have not once said (as I am accused of by some, who obviously make their own interpretation) that what happened was deliberate, although some of it does beg the question, but if it were, a neglect or ill-treatment of people lacking capacity to make some decisions is now recognised as a crime under the Mental Capacity Act. This applies to all those who work with people who have dementia, including care staff and professionals. The maximum sentence is five years in prison. My accusation, regarding this particular incident, is that it’s a failure to take appropriate action to prevent avoidable harm caused by neglect of a duty of care, poor manual handling and poor personal care by some, and as I have consistently said, “not all staff”. Trolls, can have their bias based opinion, it doesn’t change what happened and all they’re doing is to show that they condone this behaviour.
